                          Baptisms

                          Picture
It is always a delight to welcome a young family into the life of our church. Baptism is a very profound and exciting step - it can also be a life-changing experience for all involved. It is important to realise, however, that a baptism is just the first step on a journey of faith. It is not something which is 'done' to a baby who is then left to their own devices. Hopefully anyone enquiring about a baptism (christening) will be willing to take seriously the promises made in the service and regard it as just the beginning of a life-long relationship with Christ and the Christian faith.

Baptism normally take place at 3.00pm on a Sunday afternoon. There is no charge for the service. Please do get in contact if you would like further details. Tel. Taffy Davies on 01260 252228.

                          Weddings

                          Picture
Getting married may seem a daunting - but nonetheless - very wonderful and exciting step to take. At Sutton St James we will do all we can to make your wedding one of the most special days in your life.

There are, of course, a number of legal formalities which need to be dealt with, and it is never too soon to begin with a tentative enquiry. Please do get in contact if you would like further details. Tel. Taffy Davies on 01260 252228.

At its simplest, to be married in Sutton St James, at least one of the parties (ie Bride or Groom) needs to be usually living  in the parish OR have a close connection with the church in Sutton. Basically, the best thing to do is get in touch and have a chat!

As a very rough guide, to be married in church, costs about £700.00 (This covers the legal fees, hire of the building, heating, lighting and organist etc. This also includes the optional cost of bells and choir. You are certainly not obliged to have either, or both).

For general background information take a look at yourchurchwedding.org it is a mine of information.

                          Funerals

                          Picture
The loss of a loved one can be a devastating experience for all concerned. At Sutton St James we will do all we can to bring some help and comfort at a profoundly sad time in the life of a family.

When making the initial arrangements for a funeral it is usually best to contact a local funeral director in the first instance - then he or she will liaise with the church and minister to try and meet your requirements.

Generally speaking our churchyard is only available for the burial of people who have lived in the parish at some time in their lives. This is not a hard-and-fast rule but it is unusual to find an exception. The church itself is almost always available for a funeral service, perhaps before going on to the Crematorium, and we will certainly do all we can to help and support a family through the pain of losing a loved one.  Ashes can be interred in our Garden of Remembrance (with permission) after a cremation.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if ever the church can be of help. Use our contact page or phone 01260 252228
